Sending Metta to LA: A 5 Minute Meditation for Los Angeles

Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down. Let your body settle into stillness, and take three slow, deep breaths.

Breathe in fully, and as you exhale, feel yourself softening, releasing any tension you’re carrying.

Allow yourself to arrive fully in this moment, here and now. Bring your attention to the natural rhythm of your breath. Let it flow without effort.

Feel the connection between your body and the earth beneath you. Imagine the ground holding you securely, steady and calm.

Now, place a hand gently on your chest, noticing the rise and fall with each breath.

This is your center—a space of compassion and presence that you can return to whenever you need it.

Begin by offering kindness to yourself. Silently repeat these phrases as you breathe naturally:

  • May I be safe.
  • May I find strength.
  • May I be at peace.

Now, shift your focus outward to the city of Los Angeles.

Visualize it as a vast landscape—homes, streets, parks, and mountains, all surrounded by a community of people navigating this challenge together.

Imagine a soft, steady rain beginning to fall over the city. It is not a heavy downpour, but a cleansing, soothing rain. With each drop, the rain carries care, resilience, and relief to the people and the land.

Silently offer these wishes:

  • May the people of Los Angeles be safe.
  • May they find strength.
  • May they feel supported and cared for.
  • May peace return to their lives.

See the rain spreading, gently touching every corner of the city, offering comfort to all it reaches.

Now, turn your attention to the fear and uncertainty surrounding the fires.

Acknowledge that this fear exists—it is real, and it is valid. Let it sit beside you, without trying to push it away. Imagine the rain continuing to fall, washing over the fear and softening its edges.

Silently say:

  • I hold space for the fear and pain being felt.
  • I honor these emotions with compassion.
  • May strength and support reach all who need it.

Visualize the rain flowing gently, carrying both fear and hope, making space for renewal and healing.

Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, imagine the rain spreading outward beyond Los Angeles, reaching others who may also need care and compassion.

Return your awareness to your own breath. Feel the steadiness of your body, the ground supporting you.

Take a moment of gratitude for this practice—for your ability to send care, and for the resilience of those facing challenges.

When you’re ready, slowly bring your attention back to the room. Open your eyes, feeling grounded and present.
